Baseball Game Preview: Western Wildcats vs. Hewitt-Trussville Huskies

The Western Wildcats will face off against the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Western has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Hewitt-Trussville will arrive with 20 straight victories.

It was a proper cat-fight when Western faced off against West Broward on Thursday. Western took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of West Broward. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly three runs.

Western got a good showing from Jimmy Huard, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Huard has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Western saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miguel Tapia, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Anthony Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Hewitt-Trussville got the win against Southside on Friday by a conclusive 15-2. Considering the Huskies have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Hewitt-Trussville pushed their record up to 20-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Western, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
