Softball Game Preview: Torrington Raiders vs. Seymour Wildcats

Torrington hasn't had much luck against Seymour recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Raiders will host the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. Torrington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

St. Paul Catholic hit Torrington with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Raiders came up short against the Falcons, falling 10-4.

Sophia Pergola spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Lilah Boulli made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Seymour, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Naugatuck 3-2 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted against the Greyhounds since May 14, 2018.

Seymour's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Torrington, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Torrington might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Seymour in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
