Soccer Recap: Marion Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Marion challenged Richland County on Wednesday. The Wildcats took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. While losing is never fun, Marion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 321st, while Richland County are ranked 119th).

Marion has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Richland County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2-2 record this season.

Marion wasted no time getting back out on the pitch and has already played their next contest, a 1-0 defeat against Massac County on the 22nd. As for Richland County, they also didn't take long to hit the pitch again: they've already played their next game, a 5-0 victory against St. Anthony on the 20th.
