Football Recap: Christ the King Crusaders vs. Lake Norman Charter Knights
Christ the King was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Lake Norman Charter Knights by a score of 24-21. The Crusaders gained 100 more yards on the day, but it was the Knights that made the best use of them.
Despite the loss, Christ the King still got an impressive performance from JP Zimmerman, who rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Zimmerman a new career-high in rushing yards.
Among those leading the charge was David Wignot, who threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 73 yards on only seven carries. An impressive showing, but he really ramped things up playing D: he made eight total tackles and defended two passes in addition to snagging two interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Major Leak was Wignot's top target, picking up 61 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Christ the King's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Lake Norman Charter, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Christ the King will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Carver at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th. Hopefully Christ the King focused on turnovers this week as team gave up four on Friday. As for Lake Norman Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Pine Lake Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are at an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2017, but likely not for long.
