Softball Recap: Waltham Has No Trouble Against Watertown

Waltham barely beat Watertown the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks blew past the Raiders 13-7 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Josie Proskoczilo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up five earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Proskoczilo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Yassmin Vallejos and Kayla Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Vallejos went 4-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Smith went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Smith a new career-high. Rita Umbrell also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

The victory got Waltham back to even at 6-6. As for Watertown, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waltham will welcome Lincoln-Sudbury at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Watertown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stoneham at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
