Volleyball Recap: Southwest Takes a Loss

Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers, falling 3-0.

While Southwest was kept off the board, it wasn't for a lack of trying: they cut into Jefferson Independent Day's winning margin in every set. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-15, 25-16.

When it comes to explaining why Southwest lost, don't look at Olivia Hnem. Despite the final result, she had 17 digs. Hnem is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Leading Jefferson Independent Day to victory were Keira Flanagan and Vivian Sharp. Flanagan had 18 digs, two aces, and one block, while Sharp had 12 digs, four aces, and one block. Those four aces gave Sharp a new career-high.

Southwest's defeat dropped their record down to 5-9-1. As for Jefferson Independent Day, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-3-2.

Looking ahead, Southwest will challenge Cassville at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they will face off against Everton at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
