Softball Game Preview: Concord Bears vs. Pinole Valley Spartans

The Concord Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Pinole Valley Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Concord is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Concord came up short against Pittsburg and fell 7-4.

Aislynn Newlin put in work while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Shay Caban was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Pinole Valley's offense. They came up short against Bishop O'Dowd on Friday, falling 10-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered since May 14, 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Pinole Valley and nudges their season record down to 7-3. As for Concord, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Concord took their victory against Pinole Valley in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. Will Concord repeat their success, or does Pinole Valley has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
