Basketball Recap: Joel Delgado's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East Lee County over Dunbar

It was a proper cat-fight when East Lee County challenged Dunbar on Wednesday. The East Lee County Jaguars fell 77-67 to the Dunbar Tigers. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

East Lee County lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Joel Delgado, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 19 points. Branden Francois was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 14 boards.

Even though they lost, East Lee County was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dunbar to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kristian Joseph, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamari Cobb, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals.

This is the second loss in a row for East Lee County and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Dunbar, their victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-4.

East Lee County wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 74-44 loss against First Baptist Academy on the 20th. As for Dunbar, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 53-51 defeat against Immokalee on the 20th.
