Football Recap: Ashley Bears vs. Merritt Academy Mustangs
The matchup between Ashley and Merritt Academy on Friday hardly resembled the 22-0 effort from their previous meeting. The Ashley Bears were outmatched by the Merritt Academy Mustangs on the road and fell 45-14. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.
Merritt Academy had a senior duo take command as Caden Siler rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries and Anthony Casper rushed for 111 yards on only 14 carries. Siler really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.
Ashley is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5. As for Merritt Academy, they pushed their record up to 2-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Ashley will host Peck at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Merritt Academy, they will head out to square off against Carsonville-Port Sanilac at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Merritt Academy is facing Carsonville-Port Sanilac at the right time seeing as Carsonville-Port Sanilac is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
