Softball Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-12 to make it four. They lost 14-1 to the Tri-County Cavaliers. If the Rebels were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Cavaliers when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

South Newton saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kimber Cruz, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for Tri-County, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-2. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won 17 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

On Tri-County's side, Madilyn Nevitt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Nevitt has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Grace Luck was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Bella Dominguez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Tri-County beat South Newton by a score of 17-4 on Monday.
