Softball Recap: Hayfork Takes a Loss

Hayfork had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-11 to make it 12. They lost 14-1 to the Trinity Wolves. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Timberjacks of the 21-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Trinity, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games.

For Trinity's part, Brynn Sommerfeld and Jessica Brown were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Sommerfeld struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Brown tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sommerfeld got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Brown went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Brown a new career-high.

In other batting news, Trinity let Raegan Millette and Adriana Seele run wild. Millette got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Seele got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Seele has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Eva Ehlerding, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Coming up, Hayfork will welcome Plumas Charter at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Trinity, they will head out to square off against Mt. Shasta at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves are facing the Bears at the right time seeing as the Bears are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
