The Cobden Appleknockers will take on the Agape Christian Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Cobden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Cobden made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Egyptian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Appleknockers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Pharaohs a 15-0 shutout on Wednesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Appleknockers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Abby Pitts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Pitts was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Natalie Storm was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Alivia Kilpatrick was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 2-for-3.
Cobden kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Agape Christian narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Shawnee 6-5.
Isabella Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Agape Christian's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Maddison Richard, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another was Alaina Reynolds, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Agape Christian's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Cobden, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Cobden suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to Agape Christian when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Appleknockers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
