Football Recap: Holmes Bulldogs vs. Newport Wildcats
Holmes was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They took a blow against the Newport Wildcats, falling 27-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 48-6 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2023.
A big part of the win came down to the chemistry between Kyle Lee and his top target Kay Sharp. Lee threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns while Sharp picked up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Holmes' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Newport, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Holmes has the luxury of staying home for another week and will welcome Lloyd Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newport, they will have plenty of time to enjoy the win as they don't play again for a while. They'll take on Boone County at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th.
