Basketball Game Preview: Porter Ridge Pirates vs. Marvin Ridge Mavericks

The Porter Ridge Pirates will challenge the Marvin Ridge Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Marvin Ridge will be coming in after a loss.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Porter Ridge turned things around against Berry on Monday. They escaped with a win against the Cardinals by the margin of a single free throw, 54-53.

Meanwhile, Marvin Ridge came up short against East Mecklenburg on Monday and fell 52-43. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while the Eagles are ranked 83rd).

Porter Ridge will need focus on slowing down Henry Smith, one of several Marvin Ridge players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Alex Hutchens was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 15 points.

Marvin Ridge has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Porter Ridge, their win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11.

Porter Ridge beat Marvin Ridge 50-43 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Will Porter Ridge repeat their success, or does Marvin Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
