The Butler Bears will take on the Hume Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Butler took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let Midway get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won seven contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Kylee Dubray was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Butler let Taylor Hudson and Brooke Miller run wild. Hudson went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Miller earned one RBI, three runs, and four stolen bases. Those three runs gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kadyn Cook, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Butler always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Midway only posted an OBP of .000.
Meanwhile, after a string of five wins, Hume's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell just short of Greenfield by a score of 15-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 28, 2024.
Kenzee Snider was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with five runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Khloe Hubbard, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Butler has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Hume, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 8-2.
Butler was able to grind out a solid win over Hume when the teams last played back in April of 2018, winning 9-5. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
