Baseball Game Preview: Jay County Patriots vs. Shenandoah Raiders

The Jay County Patriots will square off against the Shenandoah Raiders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Jay County was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over Woodlan.

The team relied heavily on Carter Fugiett, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Leighton Brown was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Shenandoah posted their closest win since May 11, 2024 on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Wapahani 3-2. The victory continues a trend for Shenandoah in their matchups with Wapahani: they've now won four in a row.

Collin Osenbaugh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Fredenburg was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Ashton Renz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Shenandoah's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Jay County, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6-2.

Jay County was able to grind out a solid win over Shenandoah when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 12-7. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
