Softball Recap: Four Straight Road Victories for Stuttgart

Stuttgart took a 17-run loss the last time they faced off against Lonoke, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Ricebirds sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Jackrabbits on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ricebirds have posted since April 9, 2024.

Hali Watkins made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Watkins was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, MyKayla Hale was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Lily Griffin was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Stuttgart's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-11. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.8 runs. As for Lonoke, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stuttgart will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Parkview at 5:00 p.m. on the 28th. As for Lonoke, they will square off against Beebe at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
