Basketball Recap: Sioux Valley Extends Home Winning Streak to Four

A well-balanced attack led Sioux Valley over Castlewood in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. The Sioux Valley Cossacks took down the Castlewood Warriors 70-51. The Cossacks have beaten the Warriors the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Warriors has come to flipping the script.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophia Kudrna, who posted 14 points. That's the most points Kudrna has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Ruml, who had ten points and five boards.

Sioux Valley pushed their record up to 15-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points over those games. As for Castlewood, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sioux Valley will square off against Garretson at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Sioux Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Castlewood, they will challenge Estelline/Hendricks at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Castlewood has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
