Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is Avon Grove's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Avon Grove came out on top against Downingtown West on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Red Devils were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Whippets. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-6 back in April.

Ryan Fuller tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Avon Grove is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Avon Grove got a massive performance out of Wyatt Holdren, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Holdren a new career-high. Ken Askin also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Avon Grove is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Downingtown West, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-14.

Coming up, Avon Grove will face off against Hatboro-Horsham at 4:00 p.m. on the 16th. Downingtown West does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
