Softball Game Preview: Derby Red Raiders vs. Kennedy Eagles

The Derby Red Raiders will venture away from home to face off against the Kennedy Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Derby has given up an average of 13.9 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Derby is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 26 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Woodland Regional on Friday. They lost 14-1 to the Hawks.

Derby saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma DeSanty, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Kennedy finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against Naugatuck, falling 11-1. The Eagles' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Kennedy's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Derby, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Everything went Derby's way against Kennedy in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Derby made off with a 20-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Raiders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
