Softball Recap: Somerset Academy South Homestead Beats Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Somerset Academy South Homestead took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Somerset Academy South Homestead narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart 11-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hurricanes have posted since March 19, 2024.

Sophia Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up eight earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Vasallo, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Mia Santiago was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Somerset Academy South Homestead kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory (which was Somerset Academy South Homestead's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games.
