Softball Game Preview: Worthington Christian Warriors vs. Whitehall-Yearling Rams

The Worthington Christian Warriors will square off against the Whitehall-Yearling Rams at 5:15 p.m. on Monday. Whitehall-Yearling took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Worthington Christian, who comes in off a win.

Worthington Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Bexley by a score of 13-9 on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.

Evie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on nine hits. The game marked her first with multiple earned runs this season.

At the plate, Annah Niehoff and Hadassah Leverette did most of the damage at the plate: Niehoff went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI, while Leverette scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those runs were Niehoff's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Szczygiel-Hicks, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Whitehall-Yearling was a bit more limited in their matchup on Friday. They lost 12-1 to Grandview Heights. The defeat continues a trend for the Rams in their meetings with the Bobcats: they've now lost three in a row.

Whitehall-Yearling saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor Stace, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Whitehall-Yearling's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Worthington Christian, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Worthington Christian was able to grind out a solid victory over Whitehall-Yearling in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 16-12. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
