Soccer Game Preview: Winfield vs. Goddard

The Winfield Vikings will head out to take on the Goddard Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Winfield's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for nine straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Winfield fell victim to Mulvane and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They came up short against the Wildcats, falling 8-0. That's two games in a row now that Winfield have lost by exactly eight goals.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Goddard duked it out with Derby on Tuesday. The Lions lost 8-0 to the Panthers. While losing is never fun, Goddard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas soccer rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Derby are ranked eighth).

Winfield's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8-1. As for Goddard, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
