Softball Game Preview: Cox Falcons vs. Nansemond River Warriors

The Cox Falcons will square off against the Nansemond River Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cox is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Cox made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Great Bridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Falcons fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 5-3 on Saturday. The Falcons' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Meanwhile, Nansemond River got themselves on the board against King's Fork on Tuesday, but King's Fork never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 13-0. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Logan Greenwood made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Demetria Burton and Ashlyn Pociask did most of the damage at the plate: Burton went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs, while Pociask went 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave Burton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Tice, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Nansemond River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Nansemond River's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-10. As for Cox, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
