Baseball Game Preview: Williamson Warriors vs. Wellsboro Hornets

Williamson hasn't had much luck against Wellsboro recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Warriors will challenge the Hornets at 4:30 p.m.

Williamson is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They came up short against Towanda, falling 9-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Warriors' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Athens typically has all the answers at home, but on Sunday Wellsboro proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with an 8-5 victory over the Wildcats.

Maxwell Mascho made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Cuneo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Wellsboro's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

Wellsboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens only managed three hits.

Williamson's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Wellsboro, the win got them back to even at 9-9.

Williamson might still be hurting after the 26-0 defeat they got from Wellsboro in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
