Baseball Game Preview: St. Augustine Saints vs. Coronado Islanders

The St. Augustine Saints will face off against the Coronado Islanders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Augustine 3.5, Coronado 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

St. Augustine is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Cathedral Catholic just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 7-4 to the Dons. Saints fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Dons since on Thursday.

St. Augustine got a good showing from Declan Higgins, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Higgins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Augustine saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikey Ruiz, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Coronado had already won four in a row and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Centurions.

Coronado's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch. As for St. Augustine, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-9-1.
