Baseball Game Preview: South Salem Saxons vs. Mountainside Mavericks

The South Salem Saxons will venture away from home to take on the Mountainside Mavericks at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. South Salem is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Friday, South Salem earned an 11-7 win over West Salem.

Ben Hennan looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sawyer Nelson was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Scharer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Mountainside's offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Aloha on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 23, 2024, but that streak is no more.

South Salem's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-0. As for Mountainside, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.

South Salem took their win against Mountainside in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-4 score. Do the Saxons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mavericks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
