Football Recap: St. Mary's-Colgan Panthers vs. Girard Trojans
St. Mary's-Colgan had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 21-14 victory over the Girard Trojans on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Panthers also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2023.
Carston Simmons went supernova for St. Mary's-Colgan, throwing for 169 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance gave him a new career- in rushing yards. 105 of those passing yards were hauled in by Anthony Schremmer, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
St. Mary's-Colgan will challenge Frontenac at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have been evenly matched recently as the teams are 5-5 against one another since October of 2014. As for Girard, they will take on Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Girard is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
