Baseball Preview: Masterman vs. Northeast Vikings
Masterman will be playing at home against the Northeast Vikings at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Back in March, Masterman was able to grind out a solid victory over Constitution, taking the game 19-14. The win made it back-to-back victories for Masterman.
Gabe LaRosa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off three hits. LaRosa was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in 24 of his 26 plate appearances.
In other batting news, Michael Casella was incredible, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
Meanwhile, while Northeast put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Chester. Everything went Northeast's way against Chester as Northeast made off with a 15-0 win. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for Northeast this season.
Like Masterman, Northeast also got a great game from a two-way player: Machi Piatka-Walker. On the mound, Piatka-Walker tossed an inning while giving up no earned runs or hits (he also didn't allow any walks). Meanwhile, David Rivas struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive pitching appearances. At bat, Piatka-Walker scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Rivas scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Northeast got a massive performance out of Jonathan Ramirez, who went 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Ethan Gonzalez, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Masterman now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Northeast, the victory also got them back to even at 3-3.
