Baseball Game Preview: Jefferson Academy Jaguars vs. Montezuma-Cortez Panthers

The Jefferson Academy Jaguars will head out to challenge the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Jefferson Academy sitting on three straight victories and Montezuma-Cortez on 11.

On Tuesday, Jefferson Academy had just enough and edged out Peak to Peak 3-2. That's two games straight that the Jaguars have won by just one run.

Jefferson Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Pederson, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Nate Ross also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Montezuma-Cortez made easy work of Bayfield on Saturday and carried off a 15-5 win. The Panthers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by seven runs or more this season.

Seth Oakes was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Cory Carver, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Montezuma-Cortez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in six consecutive games.

Montezuma-Cortez pushed their record up to 19-4 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Jefferson Academy, their record now sits at 6-17.
