Basketball Recap: Starkville Academy Takes a Loss

Starkville Academy was the 47-45 winner over Bayou Academy when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Starkville Academy Volunteers took a 40-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bayou Academy Colts on Friday. While the Volunteers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Colts 9-4 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Starkville Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kate Couvillion posted 18 points. Another player making a difference was Sara Stokes McReynolds, who scored seven points.

Starkville Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Bayou Academy, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-8.

Starkville Academy has already played their next game, a 35-26 victory against Rossville Christian Academy on the 7th. As for Bayou Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 52-41 loss against Madison-Ridgeland Academy on the 4th.
