Baseball Preview: Greensburg Pirates vs. Jennings County Panthers
Greensburg hasn't had much luck against Jennings County recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will square off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Greensburg is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Thursday, Greensburg earned a 7-3 victory over Rushville.
Caleb Greiwe was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Joey Everroad was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Greensburg hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rushville struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Jennings County's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Providence on Wednesday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Panthers were not able to get on the board.
Jennings County had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Landon Pike and Chase Young Pike tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Young tossed four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Jennings County saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Speer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Speer has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.
Jennings County dropped their record down to 3-3 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Greensburg, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
