Softball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 18-3 to the Hoxie Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-1 back in March.

Newport saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Toddy, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Eliza Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Newport's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Hoxie, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Newport will venture away from home to face off against Walnut Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hoxie, they will face off against Maynard at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
