Basketball Recap: Makailah White's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sand Creek over Summit

Sand Creek was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Summit Tigers, falling 56-34. The Scorpions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Sand Creek's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makailah White, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 11 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tahji Vinson, who posted six points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

It was another big night for Kenya Rodriguez, who put up 16 points along with six boards and five assists for Summit. Rodriguez's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Katelynn Smith was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Sand Creek's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Summit, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Sand Creek wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 35-32 win against Palmer on the 17th. As for Summit, they will take on Alamosa in a tournament on Friday. Alamosa's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Summit's offense will have their work cut out for them.
