Basketball Game Preview: Union Hill Bulldogs vs. Avinger Indians

The Union Hill Bulldogs will square off against the Avinger Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Avinger took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Union Hill, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Union Hill turned things around against Bloomburg on Tuesday. They managed a 50-45 win over the Wildcats.

Union Hill found their leader in sophomore EJ Mowery, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and ten rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Mowery has scored at least a third of Union Hill's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Micah Barlow, who posted five points.

Meanwhile, Avinger was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They had to suffer through a 63-27 loss at the hands of Avery. The Indians were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-9.

Despite the defeat, Avinger saw an underclassman step up: freshman Kendyn Moore put up 17 points.

Avinger's loss dropped their record down to 1-20. As for Union Hill, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-10.

Everything went Union Hill's way against Avinger in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as Union Hill made off with a 42-21 win. Does Union Hill have another victory up their sleeve, or will Avinger turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
