Softball Game Preview: Paw Paw Red Wolves vs. Sturgis Trojans

Paw Paw has gone a perfect 4-0 against Sturgis recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Red Wolves will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Paw Paw will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Paw Paw barely beat Vicksburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Red Wolves never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Red Wolves, who have now won five contests by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Plainwell hit Sturgis with a four-run fourth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Sturgis fell just short of Plainwell by a score of 9-8. Sturgis has struggled against Plainwell recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Riley Northrop spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, Madison Webb was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Haylee Pappas, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Paw Paw pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Sturgis, their loss dropped their record down to 2-12.

Everything went Paw Paw's way against Sturgis in their previous meeting back in May of 2017, as Paw Paw made off with a 15-2 win. Will the Red Wolves repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
