Basketball Recap: Tinayja Summers' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mishawaka over Goshen

Mishawaka was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat. They took a 44-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Goshen RedHawks. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cavemen of the 60-50 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Mishawaka lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tinayja Summers, who posted eight points along with ten rebounds and three steals. Summers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Grace Betzer was another key player, putting up nine points.

Goshen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sueann Watt led the charge by scoring 12 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Those 12 points gave Watt a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Yordy, who put up 11 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Mishawaka's defeat dropped their record down to 2-20. As for Goshen, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 8-14.

When Mishawaka and Goshen next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Mishawaka will try to stop South Bend Riley's five-game winning streak when the meet at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Goshen will challenge Northridge and their four-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on February 7th.
