Baseball Game Preview: Bishop Timon-St. Jude Tigers vs. Nichols Vikings

For the second straight game, Bishop Timon-St. Jude will face off against Nichols. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Vikings at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop Timon-St. Jude is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Bishop Timon-St. Jude is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 13th on Monday. They lost 15-4 to Nichols.

For Nichols' part, Max Langer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kasey Kohler, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Trenton Ruffolo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.

Nichols hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.

Nichols has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Timon-St. Jude, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bishop Timon-St. Jude has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Nichols struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.3 strikeouts.
