The North Park Wildcats are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Weldon Valley Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on December 16th. Hopefully North Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, North Park came up short against Encampment and fell 51-39.
Despite their loss, North Park saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jace Cornelison, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for Cornelison. Gavin Pittington was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
North Park struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Weldon Valley, who are still winless after their fourth match. They had to suffer through a rough 70-20 loss at the hands of Arickaree. While losing is never fun, Weldon Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while Arickaree is ranked 40th).
North Park bumped their record down to 0-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Weldon Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 0-4.
Everything came up roses for North Park against Weldon Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 61-34 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for North Park since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
