Softball Recap: University Prep Picks Up 19th Straight Win at Home

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but University Prep ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over the Lassen Grizzlies. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Hailey Pebley spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 24 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Riley Villano was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

University Prep's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-10-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lassen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University Prep will square off against Anderson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers are facing the Cubs at the right time seeing as the Cubs are stuck on a 14-game losing streak. As for Lassen, they will challenge West Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
