Basketball Game Preview: Cornerstone Charter Cardinals vs. Bishop McGuinness Villains

Cornerstone Charter hasn't had much luck against Bishop McGuinness recently, but that could start to change on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Cornerstone Charter Cardinals will head out on the road to face off against the Bishop McGuinness Villains at 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Cornerstone Charter was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-32 to Leadership Academy. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Bishop McGuinness put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 55-25 victory over Carver. The Villains have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 20 points or more this season.

Cornerstone Charter better keep an eye on Adelaide Jernigan. She was instrumental in Bishop McGuinness' win, going 12 for 30 on her way to 29 points and three steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Jernigan has scored at least a third of Bishop McGuinness' points. Another player making a difference was Jenna Moore, who posted five points and four steals.

Bishop McGuinness smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Cornerstone Charter's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Bishop McGuinness, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Cornerstone Charter was dealt a bruising 62-12 defeat at the hands of Bishop McGuinness in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Jernigan, who went 9 of 12 en route to 21 points and four steals.
