Recap: Clifton Central Comets vs. Grant Park Dragons
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Manteno, the Clifton Central Comets were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They strolled past Grant Park with points to spare, taking the game 62-46. For Clifton Central, this counts as revenge for the 59-46 defeat Grant Park walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Clifton Central found their leader in underclassman Blake Chandler, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Chandler is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Perry Mason was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Despite the loss, Grant Park still got an impressive performance from Blake Brown, who scored 22 points along with four steals. That was a full 47.8% of Grant Park's points, marking the tenth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Kaack, who scored eight points.
Clifton Central's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Grant Park, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-11.
Clifton Central will head out on the road to take on Beecher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Beecher will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. As for Grant Park, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gardner-South Wilmington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Gardner-South Wilmington is ranked 639th, while Grant Park is ranked 661st).
