Preview: Highland Park Giants vs. Niles North Vikings
The Highland Park Giants will head out on the road to face off against the Niles North Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Highland Park focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
Last Friday, Highland Park was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 38-34 to Maine West. Highland Park has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Highland Park's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kourtnie Halperin, who scored 19 points, and Mckenzie Reitmayer who scored nine points along with five rebounds. Reitmayer scored a full 26.5% of Highland Park's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Highland Park struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Niles North scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They skirted past Leyden 50-48.
Highland Park's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Niles North, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.
Highland Park came up short against Niles North when the teams last played back in January, falling 55-47. Can Highland Park avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
