Recap: Highland Hornets vs. Eldorado Golden Eagles

On Friday, the Highland Hornets faced the Eldorado Golden Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Highland fell to Eldorado 70-65. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (58), Highland still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Highland still got an impressive performance from Jesus Licon, who scored 45 points. That was a full 69.2% of Highland's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Raul Stanford, who scored six points along with five assists and two steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Highland and nudges their season record down to 10-4. As for Eldorado, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland won't have much time to rest: their next game is against West Mesa at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. West Mesa knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Highland likes a good challenge. Eldorado will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against La Cueva at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th.
