Basketball Game Preview: South Houston Trojans vs. Sam Rayburn Texans

The South Houston Trojans are taking a road trip to challenge the Sam Rayburn Texans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

South Houston is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Pearland on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. South Houston was outmatched by Pearland and fell 67-37. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while the Oilers are ranked 40th).

Meanwhile, Sam Rayburn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Pearland 62-6. The game marked the Texans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

South Houston has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-12 record this season. As for Sam Rayburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-20.

Everything came up roses for South Houston against Sam Rayburn in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 60-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Houston since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
