Basketball Recap: KIPP University Prep Comes Up Short

KIPP University Prep lost against Sunnybrook Christian back in November of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. KIPP University Prep fell 63-53 to the Sunnybrook Christian Lions. KIPP University Prep has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, KIPP University Prep saw an underclassman step up: freshman Brayden Madrid went 8 of 16 on his way to 23 points and five boards. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for Madrid. A'Amir Caston-Welch also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

It was another big night for Gabe Minica, who dropped a double-double on 31 points and 17 rebounds for Sunnybrook Christian. That makes it five consecutive games in which Minica has scored at least a third of Sunnybrook Christian's points. Jay Williams was another key player, going 5 for 12 en route to 12 points and seven assists.

KIPP University Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Sunnybrook Christian, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

KIPP University Prep has already played their next matchup, a 53-49 win against IDEA Monterrey Park College Prep on the 14th. As for Sunnybrook Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 85-61 loss against Non Varsity Opponent on the 13th.
