Basketball Recap: Mullen Skates Past South Loup with Ease

Mullen's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past South Loup 60-25. The Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 22 points or more this season.

Mullen was led to victory by Hayley Donohoe and Riley Hegland. Donohoe went 7 of 12 to rack up 16 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, while Hegland went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points and three steals. Donohoe's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Brynne McCully, who posted seven points and six steals.

Mullen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 24 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Mullen pushed their record up to 15-2 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points over those games. As for South Loup, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.

Coming up, Mullen is taking a road trip to square off against Sandhills/Thedford on Tuesday. As for South Loup, they and Southern Valley will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played.
