Basketball Game Preview: Mill Valley Jaguars vs. Lawrence Free State Firebirds

Mill Valley is 2-8 against Lawrence Free State since December of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mill Valley Jaguars are taking a road trip to face off against the Lawrence Free State Firebirds at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Mill Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matches.

Mill Valley is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Olathe North, who was ranked sixth at the time (Mill Valley was ranked seventh). Mill Valley walked away with a 66-58 victory over Olathe North on Tuesday. The Jaguars haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, Lawrence Free State lost to Shawnee Mission Northwest at home by a 72-58 margin on Tuesday. The Firebirds have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Mill Valley's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Lawrence Free State, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8-1.

Mill Valley strolled past Lawrence Free State when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 68-50. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mill Valley since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
