Baseball Recap: Las Animas Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Las Animas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Rye Thunderbolts 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since May 14, 2024.

Braydon Ortiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Ortiz wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kree Wallace, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Las Animas and bumps their season record up to 7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games. As for Rye, they dropped their record down to 2-9 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coming up, Las Animas will welcome Buena Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Rye, they will head out to square off against Colorado Springs Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Thunderbolts are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
