Hayes had won six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they bumped their record up to 14-1 to make it seven. They never let the Westerville North Warriors get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. The Pacers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by six runs or more this season.
Hannah McAllister and Bronwynn Leighty made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, McAllister kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Leighty tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. McAllister has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, McAllister went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Leighty got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave Leighty a new career-high.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zee Brown, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Laurel Day, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Hayes hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westerville North struck out ten times.
As for Westerville North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.
On Westerville North's side, Mallory McLean spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.
